INVISTA exhibits its latest barrier resin technology at Drinktec 2013
Packaging technology for oxygen-sensitive food and beverages such as beer, juice, wine and sauces
INVISTA, one of the world’s largest integrated polymers and fibers producers, will display its portfolio of barrier PET packaging resins at Drinktec, Hall B3-109, September 16-20, 2013, in Munich, Germany.
INVISTA is expanding its portfolio of PolyShield® barrier resins with its latest innovation, PolyShield® MB barrier resin. This product offers INVISTA’s proven barrier technology in a concentrated ‘masterbatch’ version. It will allow converters and brewers around the world to increase their sourcing flexibility as they will have more options to save on freight and duties.
To manufacture monolayer beer containers, the masterbatch solution is prepared by blending PolyShield® barrier resin with standard quality PET resin and the required amount of nylon MXD6. This makes it possible to optimize the cost of the packaging versus the barrier performance needed to meet the shelf life requirements of oxygen-sensitive food and beverages, including beer. “PolyShield® barrier resin has proven in commercial applications in many countries that it can meet the rigorous performance criteria demanded by brewers,” said Dr. Karsten Fritsch, business manager PET Resins. “ We hope that our PolyShield® MB barrier resin will allow customers to use INVISTA’s barrier technology in additional countries around the world”.
Besides PolyShield® barrier resin and PolyShield® MB barrier resin, INVISTA will also showcase its innovative range of products, including:
- A blend of PolyShield® barrier resin and Nylon MXD6 optimized for the production of one-way beer kegs, that allows brewers to reduce handling cost, expand distribution reach and enter new markets.
- The OxyClear® barrier resin, a crystal clear polyester material tailored for the protection of oxygen-sensitive food and beverages, such as juice, tea, wine and sauces.
- The Polyclear® EBM resin, a PET grade that combines outstanding performance for extrusion blow molding with the ability to be recycled in the clear PET stream and that is ideal for producing clear, high-gloss containers that require handles.
